Can the Afghan state survive? An exchange with NSA Hanif Atmar

Although much progress has been made by the National Unity Government since it came into office a year ago, there remain serious security threats in Afghanistan and its neighbourhood. Following an introduction by EUISS Director Antonio Missiroli, Afghan National Security Adviser Atmar and EURS Franz-Michael Mellbin offered their realistic views on Afghanistan’s future security challenges and economic prospects. Participants were then invited to ask questions and provide comments in the setting of informal breakfast meeting.
