Current developments in post-conflict stabilisation and reconstruction

27 April 2009

The International Conference held in Bucharest on 27 and 28 April was attended by more than one hundred experts and practitioners directly involved in post-conflict stabilisation and reconstruction operations from over 30 countries, as well as from relevant international organisations and agencies.

Its overall focus on the technical and operational aspects of these operations allowed for a refreshing exchange of views on the current state of play and the challenges ahead, without excessively rigid or purely theoretical approaches.

This report seeks to reflect some of the most significant ideas developed the plenary sessions and working groups. They are summarised in three clusters related to different dimensions of post-conflict missions: the conceptual, legal and institutional framework; operational capabilities and implementation challenges; and education and training.
