Managing crisis, building peace: EU and US comprehensive approaches

06 March 2014

On 6 March 2014 the EUISS, in cooperation with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, organised a seminar in Washington, D.C. entitled 'Managing crisis, building peace: EU and US comprehensive approaches'.  Bringing together a select group of academic experts and practitioners from the EEAS, the US and  individual EU member states based in Washington D.C., the seminar sought to discuss the place of peace-building in respective EU and US institutional structures and broader strategic considerations.  The seminar consisted of two panels: the first looked at civilian aspects of peace-building and the comprehensive approach, while the second focused on crisis management and inter-institutional relations. The seminar finished with an intervention by Ambassador Rick Barton, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations, U.S. Department of State.
