Defending Europe: analysing the threats and strategic challenges facing the EU

On 26 February 2020, the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) and the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the EU co-organised an informal, closed-door roundtable in Brussels focusing on the threats and strategic challenges facing the EU in the current geopolitical context.

With a view to the forthcoming ‘strategic compass’, representatives from EU member states, institutions and think tanks debated how best to think of threats today and discussions focused on how the EU could design a ‘threat analysis’ as a basis for its level of ambition in security and defence.
