Daniel Fiott moderates high-level event on energy and defence

On 14 April 2021, Daniel Fiott – Security and Defence Editor at the Institute – served as a moderator and master of ceremonies at the first-ever high-level joint defence and energy meeting. The event was co-organised online by the European Defence Agency (EDA) and DG Energy, European Commission. Daniel steered two panels of discussion that focused on bringing together the defence and energy communities.

The panel discussions also helped share best practices to strengthen cooperation in tackling energy security challenges, and panellists explored how the defence sector can better contribute to the implementation of the European Green Deal and the transition to clean and secure energy. Daniel was joined by senior officials from EU member states and EU institutions and Jiri Sedivy, Chief Executive of the EDA, and Ditte Juul Jørgensen, Director General for Energy, DG Energy, European Commission, delivered keynote speeches.
