Civil society's roles in global governance

01 October 2010

This EUISS Annual Conference intends to provide a forum for dialogue between researchers, civil society organisations and policymakers on the changing role of civil society and its mobilisation in relation to global governance issues and processes. While mobilisations during events such as the Copenhagen Conference on climate change, G8 and G20 meetings, trade negotiations are quite visible, their causes and impacts are not yet well understood. In addition, the less visible but nevertheless important role of civil society organisations in the preparation and implementation of international agreements on areas ranging from human rights protection, to peace making, fair trade, environment and health protection should be further highlighted.  Last but not least, the role of civil society organisations from both industrialised and emerging countries and powers is one of the salient aspects of the working of multilateral agreements in a 'multipolar' world.
