Building weapons together (or not)
On 29 November, the Institute organised a seminar on how to strengthen the European defence industry on the occasion of the publication of Dr Jan Joel Andersson's new policy brief entitled Building Weapons together (or not).
The seminar, which also builds on the previous publications Buying Weapons together (or not) and European Defence Partnerships, brought together representatives from EU Member States, the European External Action Service (EEAS), the European Commission, the European Parliament and various experts from academia, think tanks and industry to discuss how to strengthen the European defence industry.
After Dr Andersson's presentation, two subsequent panels discussed the theory and practice of the last 50 years of European defence cooperation and the lessons learned from existing cooperations and instruments, and the overall discussions focused on identifying pragmatic ideas for what the European Defence Industry Strategy could look like in the near future.
