Since 2019, regular meetings between the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) and the Africa Working Party of the Council of the EU (COAFR) have fostered knowledge sharing on Africa-related policy planning and analysis.

The EUISS and the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU organised a seminar discussing the implications of the EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence for EU Member States, associated industry and key EU strategic partners.

On 21 April, Yana Popkostova moderated and took part in a panel discussion on the consequences of using energy as a weapon.

Tumultuous developments in global, regional and local politics have shaped a new geopolitical context for the Horn of Africa. The 20th EUISS-COAFR session discussed the new geopolitics of the region and its implications for EU engagement.

On 14 April,Giovanni Faleg delivered a presentation on EU strategies towards Africa at the seminar “African Security: Agency, Strategies, Perspectives”, organised by the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies.

On 13 April, the EUISS hosted and gave a lecture to the Maltese Diplomatic Academy on the impact of the war in Ukraine on the MENA.

On 13-14 April, Yana Popkostova took part in a panel discussion where she identified key energy policy trends and uncertainties for the future.

On 4 April, the EUISS and Eastern Circles co-organised a meeting to discuss Ukraine's military and civilian resistance against the Russian invasion.
