As Europe's electricity system becomes more digitalised, the EU fears that components from providers in China or other third countries considered high-risk from a security-policy perspective, could create cybersecurity vulnerabilities.

"The threat from China is real — both in terms of economic pressure and cybersecurity risks," warned Caspar Hobhouse in Tagesspiegel (in German). Europe must more clearly recognise that the threat can reach into the core of its energy system. [...] With solar inverters, it may possibly already be too late," he concluded.
