On 4 February 2020, the EUISS and the Africa Working Party of the Council of the EU (COAFR) jointly organised a seventh informal breakfast meeting in Brussels. The informal meeting looked at EU member states’ strategic approaches towards sub-Saharan Africa and presented the early findings of the forthcoming EUISS Chaillot Paper 'EU African Strategies'.

Dr Faleg and Mr Palleschi (EUISS) outlined member states’ strategic behaviours and types of engagements in sub-Saharan Africa and shifts in geographical and thematic priorities, with the aim of identifying points of convergence and divergence, understanding how orientations are changing, and drawing implications for EU strategy-making. The meeting also focused on the fault lines where EU and member states strategies are likely to clash with those of other global players.

EUISS-COAFR meetings are coordinated and chaired by EUISS Senior Analyst Giovanni Faleg.
