Tim Rühlig described Ukraine-China ties to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty as a "hostile interdependence". While Beijing remains Kyiv's largest trading partner and Ukraine a key agricultural supplier to China, the relationship is asymmetric in Beijing's favour, though both sides have an interest in maintaining economic ties. He argued, however, that Ukrainians will try wherever they can to make themselves more independent.
