To challenge Moscow's Arctic ambitions, Europeans should follow through on the decision to end LNG imports from the Russian Arctic, as well as deny maintenance for the tankers used to transport it from Yamal, argued Ondrej Ditrych in World Export Controls Review.

"Conversely, in the longer term, the EU should seek to end or at least substantially reduce dependence on Rosatom which acts as the logistics operator for the Northern Sea Route [infrastructure] and is therefore central to Russia's geopolitical ambitions in the Arctic," he added.
