Reuters mentioned Luigi Scazzieri's Brief, 'Plugging the gap: How Europe can keep Ukraine supplied with the means to defend itself', in an article on how Ukraine's extensive use of drones against Russia has transformed the battlefield. The war has evolved into the most drone-intensive conflict ever, slowing Russian advances and forcing Moscow to adapt its tactics.
Even though the use of drones has helped Ukraine partially offset its disadvantages in manpower and artillery, the country remains dependent on Western military support. Europe is stepping up by increasing their delivery of ammunition and enhancing manufacturing capabilities, yet Ukraine continues to depend heavily on American support for air defence systems and for intelligence sharing.
As Luigi writes in his Brief, "the most challenging gap for Europeans to fill in a scenario where the US completely cuts off all assistance to Ukraine would be providing Kyiv with communications and intelligence support. Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance have long-been recognised as critical shortfalls for Europe."
