When asked about maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, Lizza Bomassi told Seznam Zprávy (in Czech) it is one of the most promising areas of the EU–India partnership.
The interests of both sides "clearly overlap here, and it is also an area for which complementary elements are offered, such as monitoring, data, training and education, so there is potential for meaningful cooperation." However, she warned that the transformation of the partnership into deeper cooperation is not guaranteed and difficulties may arise.
Is there at least one hypothetical scenario in which India's complete shift away from Russia to the EU could be realistic? "Only if Russia and China were to become so closely aligned that it would no longer make sense to try to reverse it," she added.
