Having Canada as a "safe supplier" could help EU companies reduce their dependence on countries such as China and the US. It is uncertain, however, whether this would translate into a revival of Europe's car industry, given Beijing's control over the entire supply chain. "But it can certainly help the EU's efforts to develop strategic industries such as defence and advanced manufacturing," he added.
