Discussing the work on the next NATO Defence Planning Process which is set to begin soon, Giuseppe Spatafora told Euractiv that while the consultation process has historically been done mostly at the level of allied governments, who would then talk to their national industry, he expects the new strategy will seek to directly include industry in these consultations as much as possible.

Cooperation between NATO and industry remains voluntary and is not backed by dedicated funding, which is the key limitation according to Giuseppe. He explained that NATO provides relatively limited financial support compared with the EU's recent defence funding initiatives.
