While the Pentagon and NATO maintain that arms deliveries to Ukraine through the PURL initiative will continue, "if the war in the Middle East were to continue and severely test the US's ability to fulfil orders, this could create serious problems for Europe and Ukraine," warned Giuseppe Spatafora in Libertatea (in Romanian).

Although there are European alternatives to the Patriot systems, Giuseppe argues that they cannot be produced quickly enough to replace American deliveries. "The argument in favour of American systems has always had an element of urgency: as long as an American system is immediately available, the focus is on acquiring it rather than on European alternatives," he noted.
