Alice Ekman on the resurgence of the communist ideology under Xi Jinping

Alice Ekman joined Challenges' 'Superpower' podcast (in French) to discuss the common misconception that China is no longer communist. "The Party's ideological, bureaucratic, and organisational legacy remains omnipresent." 

She argued that since his rise to power in 2012, Xi undertook to reaffirm the Party's centrality in all spheres of society. "We are witnessing an ideological renewal, but also a strengthening of political control."

According to Alice, in order to understand China, one must be willing to look beyond purely economic indicators. The political logic remains decisive.
