Discussing Trump's desire to acquire Greenland, Giuseppe Spatafora told Anadolu that the US President's focus on world's largest island now extends more than a year, suggesting that Washington's interest is serious.

He added that Trump's rhetoric "complicates transatlantic unity at a time when US–Europe relations are already under strain".

"Greenland is part of an EU member state and NATO ally. And there, the European presence should increase regardless," he argued. Not only to deter potential Russian or Chinese influence but also to reinforce the principle that allied territories will be defended against all threats.
