When asked about the European Commission's Defence Readiness Roadmap, Giuseppe Spatafora told O Globo that this ambitious task is not easy, but that there is no alternative. "These proposals take stock of the greatest vulnerability, especially in relation to "cheap mass" drone attacks, which require appropriate and cost-effective responses." (in Portuguese)

In a Kyiv Independent article on the "drone wall" debate and the scepticism around the initiative, Giuseppe argued that "part of the problem is also about giving up member state competences to the European Commission at the expense of the biggest member states — an enduring issue for EU defence initiatives."

He added that for countries far from the eastern flank, "drones are not seen as the highest priority — and they suspect most resources will flow eastward."
