Speaking to Radio Prague International ahead of a meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska, Ondřej Ditrych discussed how Europeans and Ukrainians are working to shape negotiations they will not attend, and commented on potential land swaps.

“I don't think Russia is waging this war over territory in eastern Ukraine. I think its goal is to undermine Ukraine's sovereignty and independence. The question is, rather, what price we—but Ukraine in particular—might pay for some kind of ceasefire, which probably won't last long. Russia, as usual, is setting maximalist conditions for a ceasefire that are unacceptable. But it may be willing to compromise on some of them in some way. But how exactly that will happen depends on the negotiations.”
