On 4 July, we organised a round table titled "Shifting Sands in the Sahel: EU's Strategic Options for a Renewed Approach" at our Paris office.
We were especially honoured to welcome H.E. João Gomes Cravinho, the EU Special Representative for the Sahel, who shared his insights on the evolving geopolitical landscape of the region, the challenges of recent political transitions, and priorities for a renewed EU approach.
The session, moderated by Senior Analyst Rossella Marangio, gathered policymakers, researchers and practitioners to discuss:
- Shifts in regional alliances following the coups
- The impact of the Confederation of Sahelian States (AES) and ECOWAS dynamics
- Relations with the Maghreb and implications for EU engagement
- Policy recommendations for a more effective, responsive EU strategy in the Sahel
Thank you to all participants for an excellent and engaging discussion.
