Katarzyna Sidło was quoted in an article by the Luxembourg Times examining the EU’s strategic engagement with Egypt amid growing geopolitical and economic instability.
In the piece, Dr Sidło commented on the EU’s €4 billions loan to Cairo recently adopted, underlining the delicate balance between economic incentives and political realities: “Overall, there is a consensus that Egypt is too big to fail. Obviously, Egypt knows it,” she noted, reflecting on the EU’s efforts to stabilise a critical partner while navigating persistent governance challenges.
She also highlighted the structural barriers facing European investors in Egypt, stressing that: “The truth is that still the business environment in Egypt is just not right for the majority of EU investors. You want to make sure that as a business owner your money is safe and that you’re not suffocating from the red tape, as tends to be the case in Egypt.”
