The European Union Institute for Security Studies processes personal data in compliance with Regulation 2018/1725 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data by the Union institutions, bodies, offices and agencies and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Regulation (EC) No 45/2001 and Decision No 1247/2002/EC. An independent supervisory body, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), is monitoring the application of the Regulation within the EU institutions and bodies.
Each institution or body of the EU is required to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO). The task of the DPO is to ensure, in an independent manner, that the institution complies with the data protection law and protects individuals’ rights and freedoms by protecting their personal data. The DPO is to be notified of all processing operations involving personal data.

Records of processing activities
The EUISS, as all the other EU institutions, must maintain a register of records of activities under its responsibility involving processing (collection, storage, use etc.) of personal data.
The register has to be publicly accessible and must contain certain pieces of information explaining the purpose and conditions of the processing operations.
