Traineeships (period September 2013 - January 2014)

From September 2013 to January 2014, the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) is providing a limited number of traineeships to candidates who have or are about to obtain their Master’s degree. Candidates must also be EU citizens.

The main task of trainees will be to assist the research team under the supervision of the Documentation and Research Officer who is responsible for the programme. Work will be primarily focused on research, while certain administrative tasks may also be entrusted to trainees from time to time.

The traineeship will be for a period of 5 months, running from the beginning of September 2013 to the end of January 2014. According to the expertise of the selected trainees, the traineeship will be based either at the Institute’s headquarters in Paris or at the EUISS Brussels Antenna. Please mention your (non-binding) preference in the application.

Candidates should have a very good knowledge of at least one of the Institute's working languages (French and English).

Trainees will receive a monthly stipend of 900 euros. Trainees are entitled to one day’s leave per month plus French festivities and public holidays. They are expected to be present at the Institute during normal working hours, although justified absences may be authorised by the Documentation and Research Officer (France) or the Brussels Antenna Coordinator (Belgium) upon request.

The Institute does not provide health insurance for trainees, who should ensure they are covered by medical insurance during their stay in France or in Belgium and be able to show a European Health Insurance Card upon arrival.

The Institute regrets that it cannot pay for travel expenses or accommodation nor can it assist trainees in finding accommodation in Paris or Brussels.

The closing date for applications is 9 May 2013

Applications should include:

  • a completed application form;
  • a detailed CV;
  • a covering letter, outlining the reasons for the candidate’s interest in the Institute’s traineeship programme and the applicant’s main strengths.

Completed applications should be sent by e-mail to Sylvie Deveze no later than 9 May 2013.

The EUISS regrets it is unable to reply to all applications. Only successful candidates will be contacted and decisions will be communicated in June.

(For traineeships taking place in the first half of 2014, a new application period will open in autumn 2013.)
