On 27 May 2021, the EUISS and the Africa Working Party of the Council of the EU (COAFR) held their twelfth meeting to discuss the new US administration’s foreign policy towards Africa and opportunities for stronger EU/US cooperation.

Dr Judd Devermont (Center for Strategic and International Studies - CSIS) and Dr Simona Soare (EUISS) gave a reading of the Biden administration’s approach and strategy towards Africa, focusing on continuity and change vis à vis previous US administrations. They then highlighted implications for transatlantic cooperation and provided key recommendations to improve concerted EU-US action in Africa.

EUISS-COAFR meetings are coordinated and chaired by EUISS Senior Analyst Giovanni Faleg.
