EUISS at Schuman Forum
On 21-22 March 2023, the EUISS took part in the first Schuman Security and Defence Forum.
The event aims to facilitate dialogue and strategic reflection on international security and defence between the EU, its Member States and their partners, examining ongoing trends, issues and initiatives. It brought together politicians, senior decision-makers, military representatives from EU Member States and partner countries, and representatives from international and regional organisations with which the EU cooperates in security and defence. Members of civil society, thought leaders and opinion formers were also invited.
The Schuman Forum takes place every two years under the authority of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission.
Ahead of the conference, a side-event brought together some 30 think-tankers from around the world and officials from the European External Action Service. EUISS Director Gustav Lindstrom and Senior Analyst Jan Joel Andersson participated to the discussion.
The Forum officially opened with a closed-door ministerial meeting where Gustav Lindstrom served as master of ceremony for a debate on "A changing world – Managing common challenges together".
A plenary session, high-level discussions and roundtables on various topics followed the next day.
