On 13 June, the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) and the Direction Générale des relations internationales et de la stratégie (DGRIS), French Ministry of the Armed Forces, co-organised a seminar in Paris on EU security and defence. Specifically, the seminar focused on the implementation of the Strategic Compass.

The event brought together approximately 50 individuals from government and the think tank community. The EUISS and DGRIS were honoured to welcome senior officials from the governments of France, Czech Republic, Sweden and Spain and each speaker provided an overview of how successive EU Presidencies of the Council of the EU would implement the Strategic Compass.

The panel discussion was followed by two parallel working group sessions on EU-NATO cooperation and the EU Rapid Deployment Capacity.

This was the 7th edition of the seminar and since 2018 the EUISS and DGRIS have provided a forum for outgoing and incoming EU Presidencies to discuss the way forward for EU security and defence.
