On 17 June 2021, the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) organised the 2021 EU-Republic of Korea (ROK) Strategic Dialogue, in cooperation with the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Korean National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA). Held annually, this was the 8th edition of the Dialogue organised by the two partners. It gathered 25 experts and officials from both Europe and South Korea.

The first session of the meeting focused on the Korean peninsula, looking at the recent developments with the Biden administration in place, while the second session looked at the broader regional dynamics, comparing the EU and ROK’s approaches towards Asia/the Indo-pacific. South Korea’s New Southern Policy and the EU’s Indo-Pacific Strategy were explained and discussed in a comparative perspective. The two rounds of discussion led to a technical discussion on the role the EU can play in the area.
