2020 – What’s to come

24 January 2020
Conference room with panel 1 of EUISS #EUforesight event

As the European Union and its member states navigate into a new year but also decade, the EUISS organised its yearly foresight event entitled ‘2020 – What’s to come?’ on 24 January in Brussels. To stimulate future-oriented thinking, three all-EUISS panels looked ahead at some of the major strategic challenges facing EU policymakers in 2020 and beyond. On the agenda were new relations with China, Russia and Africa, as well as upcoming elections, potential unrest, and key developments in defence, cyber, and sanctions policy.

At the event, the EUISS launched its most recent Chaillot Paper ‘What if…? 14 Futures for 2024’, imagining positive scenarios including the pathways to get there, and the ‘What if…’ foresight podcast – the latest addition to the EUISS portfolio.
