Beatrice Catena

Beatrice Catena is a Project Officer at the European Union Institute for Security Studies, working on the EU-funded project Countering Foreign Interference. Her research focuses on strengthening the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy against information threats, with a particular emphasis on cognitive security.

In addition to her role at the EUISS, Beatrice is a part-time doctoral student at the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. Her PhD research, conducted in collaboration with the King’s Centre for the Study of Intelligence, examines the impact of evolving threats such FIMI on European intelligence services.

She holds a Master’s degree in Conflict Studies from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from King’s College London. Her Master’s thesis, From Concept to Discursive Weapon: How the Annexation of Crimea Shaped Western Narratives on Hybrid Warfare, was awarded Best Master’s Thesis by the LSE.

Prior to joining the EUISS, Beatrice gained experience at Eurasia Group, the Italian Embassy in London, and Dialogue Journal. She recently contributed to the G7’s Think 7 Task Force on Peace, Security, and Global Governance with a policy brief addressing AI-generated disinformation.
