Map of Europe in colours and name of event

The war in the Middle East is reshaping the broader geopolitical landscape. The conflict began on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes on Iran, followed by Iranian attacks on Israel, US military bases in the region, and critical infrastructure in several Gulf states. Now in its second week and spreading across the region, the war is generating repercussions that reach far beyond the Middle East, including Europe.

For the European Union, the consequences may extend across energy markets, trade routes, migration, and the wider security environment. The war also raises pressing questions about Europe’s strategic posture, from security and defence planning to partnerships with allies and the EU’s role in an increasingly unstable international landscape.

Join us for a new episode of Europe Responds as EUISS analysts unpack the implications of the war for Europe and discuss how the EU may need to adapt.
