On 28 November, Dr Ditrych briefed MEPs at the European Parliament on Russia's recent escalatory moves, potential EU responses, and strategic steps for adaptation. He highlighted actions such as the experimental firing of the Oreshnik missile and adjustments to Russia's nuclear doctrine as deliberate efforts to instill fear of WWIII and weaken Western resolve.
Dr Ditrych provided a realistic assessment of Russia's transactional relationships with China and North Korea, emphasising their opportunistic nature. He cautioned against overreacting to "performative escalations," urging the EU to focus instead on Russia’s battlefield advances, hybrid campaigns, and preparations for the possibility of a second Trump administration.
He advocated for a comprehensive EU strategy to contain Russia, including:
- Supplying critical military assets to Ukraine.
- Deepening Ukraine's integration into the EDTIB.
- Preparing diplomatically for future ceasefire negotiations.
- Enhancing strategic communications with domestic audiences and the emerging world.
Such efforts, he argued, are essential to "unpower" Russia—curbing its ability to wage war against Ukraine and undermine EU interests worldwide.
