On 16-17 March 2026, the Institute, the EU Delegation to Singapore and the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, co-hosted the EU-Singapore Think Tank Dialogue in Singapore. The discussions focused on security and defence cooperation and explored shared strategic interests, complementary strengths and practical pathways for collaboration.
Following a day of closed-door expert discussions, the public event 'The EU & Singapore: Partnering for Resilience in the Indo-Pacific' offered a stage for new insights and discussions on how the EU and Singapore can work together to reinforce their own resilience and that of ASEAN.
Discussions centred on the erosion of the rules-based international order, rising geopolitical and economic uncertainty, and the need to strengthen resilience across supply chains, digital infrastructure, and security domains. Participants also highlighted the growing convergence of economic and security concerns, particularly in emerging technologies, artificial intelligence governance, and critical infrastructure.
The dialogue underscored the need for deeper EU-Singapore cooperation through issue-based collaboration, stronger trust-building, and diversified partnerships. While threat perceptions differ, shared vulnerabilities were seen as a key driver for more coordinated, flexible, and forward-looking cooperation in an increasingly fragmented global landscape.
