Arctic security matters

The Arctic has gained in importance on the agenda of global trading powers, and the region currently constitutes a political frontier for Arctic and non-Arctic actors alike. While many have highlighted possibilities for Arctic cooperation and existing regional and global governance frameworks have been strengthen, the possibility of disputes and intensifying power projections over the Arctic cannot not be ignored.
This workshop brought together various actors — from institutions, private industry and academia — to hold discussions around three interconnected dimensions: (i) climate change and the environment and how this leads to; (ii) economic potential, territorial claims (EEZ, shelves) and how this impacts on; (iii) the geostrategic environment, hard security, and the military environment in general.
