On 30 March, the Institute participated to the first Symposium on EU-Norway security and defence cooperation. The focus of the discussion was on the opportunities and challenges for further security and defence policy cooperation between Norway and the EU within the broader context of transatlantic security.

Norwegian State secretary Anne Marie Aanerud, and European External Action Service (EEAS) Deputy Secretary General Charles Fries, gave the opening remarks.

EUISS Director Gustav Lindstrom participated to a panel on EU–Norway relations in the area of security and defence. Senior Analyst Jan Joel Andersson was part of a second panel on EU initiatives in defence cooperation.

The event was organised by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Norwegian Ministry of Defence and the EEAS, in collaboration with Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) and the EUISS. It served as a prelude to the bilateral consultations on security and defence between Norway and the EU the same day.
