Meeting on the future of the AfCFTA with EU member states

On 29 April 2021, the EUISS and the Africa Working Party of the Council of the EU (COAFR) held their eleventh meeting to discuss the future of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The speakers discussed with EU member states the findings of the latest EUISS Chaillot Paper African Futures 2030: Free Trade, Peace and Prosperity. During the meeting, authors of the foresight scenarios highlighted challenges and opportunities raised by the implementation of the AfCFTA in areas such as environment, digitalisation, conflict, jobs, urbanisation, armament, governance, violence and crime, energy, and blue economy. Finally, the authors provided key policy recommendations for the relationship between Africa and Europe.

EUISS-COAFR meetings are coordinated and chaired by EUISS Senior Analyst Giovanni Faleg.
