The importance of space for EU security, defence and resilience

04 October 2021

On 4 October 2021, the French Permanent Representation to the European Union and the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) co-organised an online workshop to address space and security and defence within the context of the Strategic Compass process. The workshop covered issues such as growing strategic competition in space, the development of space capabilities and technologies, the contestation of international norms and regulations and the development of EU policy initiatives. The workshop also underlined the growing need for a common European strategic culture for space.

The webinar attracted over 80 participants from Member States and EU institutions and it took place in the context of the Strategic Compass dialogue phase. The event welcomed a number of high-level speakers from the various French government ministries, the European Commission, the European External Action Service and the EU Satellite Centre, plus think tank representatives from Berlin and Paris.
