Europe’s security and defence: what next?

11 March 2016

This seminar, jointly organised by the EUISS, the Dutch Embassy in Paris and the French and Dutch Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence, aimed at stimulating dialogue about the changing nature and increasing importance of national and supranational security policy in Europe. The event was organised on the occasion of the state visit of the Dutch king and queen to France. It brought together more than 250 participants, including academics, diplomats and military officers, but also aimed at involving students from both Dutch and French civil and military academies.

The seminar was opened by the Dutch Minister of Defence, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and by a video message by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini. Subsequently, two panels discussed current and future key threats to Europe’s security and the EU’s security and defence role.
