On 5 May 2021, the EUISS and the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA) co-organised a roundtable on ‘Preventing Violent Extremism: New entry points for collective action’ at the 2021 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development.

Led by Dr Giovanni Faleg (EUISS) and Dr Katariina Mustasilta (FIIA), this roundtable discussed new tools to prevent violent extremism as it continues to spread beyond traditional hotspots. It drew lessons learned across regions and sectors, and discussed how to foster targeted collective action amid emerging challenges.

Introductory food for thought remarks were provided by Dr Cheryl Hendricks, Executive Head of the Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA); Dr Kumar Ramakrishna, Head of the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR), in the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) and Dr Morten Bøås, Research Professor at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI). They were followed by a lively discussion with a geographically diverse group of experts, scholars and policy-makers.

The EUISS has been a partner of the Stockholm Forum since 2019.
