EUISS at the 2021 EU Defence Washington Forum

On 29 June 2021, Daniel Fiott - Security and Defence Editor at the EUISS - was invited to speak at the 2021 EU Defence Washington Forum, which was organised by the EU Delegation to the United States and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Daniel spoke on a panel looking at better spending for future capabilities and he joined Mackenzie Eaglen, Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and Dr Victoria Coleman, Chief Scientist, US Air Force, for the discussion. Daniel focused his remarks on the budgetary pressures that may emerge because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the future technology needs of the EU.

Daniel joined a host of senior EU representatives including Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, European External Action Service (EEAS), Jiří Šedivý, Chief Executive, European Defence Agency, Vice Admiral Hervé Bléjean, Director-General, EU Military Staff, Brigadier General Fernando Luis Gracia Herreiz, Commander, EU Training Mission Mali and Charles Fries, Deputy Secretary General for CSDP and Crisis Response, EEAS. The Forum also brought together ministers and senior officials from the Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Slovenia, United States and NATO.
