The EU and the US: partners in stability?

The April 2003 Transatlantic Conference, The EU and the US: partners in stability?, was held at the EU Institute for Security Studies in Paris. Bringing together officials and academics from both sides of the Atlantic, the conference analysed the state of transatlantic relations after the invasion of Iraq. Besides discussing the lessons learned from Iraq, participants considered current challenges and how they might impact the partnership in the future. An implicit U.S. message coming out of the conference was the need for a more 'business-like' relationship across the Atlantic. From the EU side, participants noted the need for a common perspective or vision to strengthen the partnership
