Deputy Secretary General Charles Fries' visit to EUISS

On 9 October, EEAS Deputy Secretary General for Peace, Security, and Defence, Charles Fries, visited our premises in Paris for an insightful discussion on the progress and future of EU defence. He sat down with EUISS Director Steven Everts and EUISS analysts to delve into the strategic challenges and opportunities facing Europe.

At this critical moment for European security, Fries highlighted that while the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) continues to be a key pillar in terms of field deployment and projection, the current focus in Brussels is increasingly shifting towards capacity-building and industrial initiatives to strengthen Europe's ability to ensure its security.
