On 15 April 2021, Security and Defence Editor Daniel Fiott represented the EU Institute for Security Studies at the European Parliament. Daniel was invited to share his perspectives on the development of the EU Strategic Compass and the challenges facing EU security and defence by the Sub-Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE). The exchange of expert perspectives was moderated by SEDE Chair MEP Nathalie Loiseau and Daniel was joined by Nicole Koenig, Deputy Director at the Jacques Delors Institute, and Christian Mölling, Research Director at the German Council on Foreign Relations. During the debate with MEPs, Daniel stressed the importance of having a Compass that addresses the challenges identified in the EU’s November 2020 Threat Analysis, prioritises key needs in security and defence and focuses on concrete action points that should be delivered after March 2022.
