Brexit: what consequences for the EU’s security and defence agenda?

23 March 2018

On 23 March, the EUISS organised a roundtable on Brexit and its consequences for the EU’s security and defence agenda. The meeting provided a forum for policymakers, think tankers and academic representatives to share their thoughts about the format of the future relationship between the EU-27 and the UK, the consequences for the range of security and defence initiatives launched by the EU since the publication of the EU Global Strategy, and the impact on the EU’s identity as a security provider. The debate offered the opportunity for participants to highlight several challenges such as the need to find a balanced agreement between EU-27 and the UK, how to ensure a level playing field, and how the UK can participate in PESCO initiatives.
